Landfills

Once we fill up an entire landfill site that has been designated for municipal waste, what happens to that site? Is it literally just left to decay, or attempts made to do something else with it?

It's pretty cool actually. A layer of clay or plastic is added to the top of the landfill/raise, and over time this is grassed over and typically returned to the public - often as a country park.
